Brooklynn and Ethan 7 Months Old

After some minor protests, a little more coaxing and silly faces from the brothers, we got what I think are the best pictures so far!  Thank you to Jaime for such patience and great photos.

At 7 Months Ethan...
  • Crawling!  Aaaa!!  He swivels on his belly for direction, scoots up on his knees, and launches himself forward like a seal.  He is so proud of himself and suddenly into everything!  The days of laying him on the floor outside my bathroom and taking a shower are over.  Yipes!
  • His favorite "toy" is Brooklynn.  He loves to eat her headband, steal her toys, and literally crawl all over her.  She tolerates it some days and squawks at him others.
  • Is still not interested in eating solids.  I have tried everything--mixing cereal with my milk, sweet baby food, bait-and-switch with toys, etc.  Nothin' doin'!  He shudders, spits, and sometime gags. The only thing he'll eat besides milk is those little rice puff snacks-- don't know whether he likes them because they're "toys" to him, if he likes more texture, or if he's just "mr. independent" and insists on feeding himself.
  • Fits into 0-3 month clothes width-wise, and 6 month clothes length-wise.  He's long and skinny.  Although his cheeks are filling out, he still has no butt.  He is just tipping the scales at 12 lbs and wears size 1 diapers.
  • Giggles, likes to be tossed in the air, and is easy and fun to tickle.  Just yesterday he crawled over the top of Brooklynn and she got ahold of his feet, which of course she began to chew on, and Ethan could not keep back the giggles from her tickly mouth!
  • Still has no teeth, though he's been drooling for months now.  We often call him the slimer.  By the end of the day he's usually wet down to his belly-button.
  • His favorite things to chew on, besides his sister and his own feet, seem to be paper products.  If he sees a paper airplane, box of tissues, diaper (clean or dirty!), or box of wipes on the floor, he has an instant target.
  • Still flirts and will go to just about anyone.  The ladies at church love him!
  • Still wakes up at least once a night.  Someday....*sigh*
  • Loves his older brothers.  Whenever he's crying I can ask Jake to make him happy and Ethan will usually be laughing within minutes.  I often see him watching Jake and Bray run around in the house and can just imagine him taking notes!
At 7 Months Brooklynn...
  • Is still a happy lump.  She occassionally rolls to get somewhere, but mostly stays in one place and just plays.  You've never met a more mellow sweet baby.  She only squawks when she gets stuck in a corner, when being mauled by her brother, or is hungry or dirty.  She loves to play with her toes, kick her feet until her socks come off, and chew on anything within reach!
  • Loves to growl, squeal, grunt, and giggle and has the most expressive little brown eyes.  Even the pediatrician at her last appointment commented on her sparkly countenance-- if only she could speak, I wonder what she would say!
  • Is beginning to eat solids, but is still picky and figuring it out.  Banana seems to be a winner?
  • Is only just fitting into 6 month clothes, and like her brother is tiny for her age.  She's has fluffly little buns, chunky thighs, and sweet cheeks, but still looks like a little pixie next to her contemporaries.  She is only a half-pound heavier than her brother and is in size 2 diapers now.
  • Is soooo fun to dress up!  I never thought I would get so excited about baby clothes and the color pink, but it seriously makes my heart happy!  I squeal every time she starts fitting into the next size of cute little outfits and mourn those that she is so quickly outgrowing.  I love the headbands, bows, socks, accessories, etc.  I know it's a little ridiculous, but I don't care!  Yay for girls!
  • Loves to paly peek-a-boo with a towel or blanket.  You can tell she is so proud of herself for pulling that thing off of her face!  Jacob loves to play with her and does this game like a pro!
  • Still has no teeth but seems to be complaining and has some promising lumpy gums.  She's not nearly as much of a drooler as Ethan is though.  I guess we'll see!
  • Loves her binky, loves to snuggle, and enjoys her mobile.  Unlike her brother, who spits the binky and will keep himself awake as long as there's something to see and room to wiggle, she falls asleep fairly easily and almost always naps whenever we drive somewhere.  Nighttime is still inconsistent though.  Last night she did 7 hours--yay!  The night before... was up 3 times.  arg!  Hoping it's just the teeth.
  • Always has to look at whoever is holding her.  It's almost as if she's checking to be sure you're still there.  She turns and smiles, then goes back to whatever she was looking at.  Last night, Jason was doing his famous baby-calming game of lay-next-to-me-and-watch-me-throw-this-ball.  Stops a crying baby it its tracks every time!  It was extra cute with Brooklynn though, because between every toss, she would turn her head towards him, they would look at eachother, and then she'd flip her head back up to see the next toss-- toss, heads together, smile at daddy, heads up, toss! Adorable!
  • Loves her brothers.  Even when they're mauling her she puts up with it fairly well and sometimes even rewards them with a laugh.  We love our baby doll!

The Baptism

Jett was baptized on February 4th and it was so great! Lots of family, friends and teachers showed up to support Jett and he was SO excited! During the baptism, there were tons of kids up by the font to watch and Dallas was right in the middle up front. When they were getting ready to baptize one of the boys, he decided to climb the plexi-glass to get a better view! He looked like he was going to go for a swim and sure made people jump. I couldn't get to him, and he did it again during Jett's baptism.... yeah, that was my kid. It was funny and makes a fun memory. Jett did great and then was confirmed surrounded by tons of worthy, awesome men. It was so cool. Later that evening we had all the family together for a potluck. Thanks to everyone who came and was there for Jett's special day!! Later, Jett commented that even though he was cold on the outside, he felt very warm and good on the inside. He loves being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints and we are so proud of him!

Happy Valentine's Day

This was a pretty good Valentine's day. Overall it was kinda slow - but still good. Ava had a party at school and came home with loads of candy. Then the kids and I made heart shaped cookies together. We frosted them, decorated and delivered them to Grandma and Paka.

Then, once we returned home, I managed to whip up the best dinner I have ever made! (with some grilling expertise from my sweetheart!) I'm not sure if it's because I'm pregnant - I choose to ignore that idea - but this dinner was EXCELLENT!

I marinated New York Strip Steaks for 5 hours, then Drew grilled them to perfection on the BBQ.
I also marinated asparagas in EVOO and salt and pepper for 2 hours, which Drew also grilled. This is my new favorite way to cook and eat asparagas!
I sauted button mushrooms in loads of butter and salt.
I prepared a spinich/strawberry salad complete with candied almonds!
And to finish it off, I tried a new recipe for Hollandaise sauce for the asparagas and steak. It was awesome!
This all melted in my mouth and Drew thoroughly enjoyed it as well! If you can't tell - I am kinda proud of myself.
After dinner I played dollies with the kids and then it was off to bed for them and MOVIE TIME for us.
So ultimately, a quiet but busy day - but with my favorite people - Drew, Ava & Brycen!

Oh, AND THEN...
Just before bed, Brycen ran into the corner of the counter in the bathroom and split his lip open. So a few tears and a popcicle later, he was fine and off to bed.

We love you all!

Jacobisms

Jakey gave his first talk in primary today!!!  He is just getting so big and he loves being the big brother.  My favorite is watching he and Bray entertain the twins.  Now that Ethan and Brookie and getting bigger and more aware, making them laugh is everyone's favorite pastime.  Brooklynn loves peekaboo with a towel and Ethan giggles so easily.  Jason was making duck noises and Bray was gurgling in his throat, and the twins, esp Ethan, were just chuckling.:)
Anyhow, back to the Jacobism of the day.  We were talking after church with Jacob's primary teachers and they told us some good ones.  Apparently Jacob likes to rehearse to his class the Veggietales version of the story of Jonah and told them that the Ninevites were mean people who slapped people with fishes!  His teachers were so confused!  Hahaha!  The best one, I think though, is a conversation they had in their class when they were discussing the devil.  The kids understood that he was a "bad guy" and Jacob pipes up, "Does he have a sword or a gun?"  The teachers told him, he has both.:)

Riley's 6 Month Photos!

Riley got her 6 month pictures taken and they turned out great! She's such a happy little chub and we feel so blessed to have her!
(Don't worry, Mom & Dad! I'll bring the CD to Portland the next time we visit so you can have some prints of your own!)

2011 Portland Christmas Pics - a bit late....oopsie....my bad

Drew and Mandy, with Ava and Brycen, and Jayson and Ashley, with Jett, Tucker, and Dallas, all came to Nana and Papa's home in Portland for nearly a WHOLE WEEK! WooHoo! We had a great Christmas vacation together.

Christmas Eve was a beautiful, sunny day in Portland, so we loaded everyone up and went sledding at White River near Mt. Hood. The snow was a bit slushy, but there was enough to get some great rides in. The little kids LOVED sledding with moms and dads and each other, while Papa set up lunch, and Nana and Drew and Mandy took pictures. It was a great afternoon together!

Brycen discovered that he could "sled" down the hill all by himself - on his back!
The "Dead Man" position actually worked quite well!
Then he was determined to climb ALL the way back up all by himself - way to go, Brycen!
Dallas had a great time, too, but he preferred to be pulled UP the hill,
instead of climbing up by himself! Silly kid....
All pretty in pink! Ava couldn't stop laughing every time she came down the hill! She learned how to "catch some air" on the snow jump! Hang on tight, Ava!Tucker caught some "serious air" on the snow jump, too, while Jett and Drew cheered him on! Jett went over this jump a BUNCH of times, as well! Ooomph! It was a little rocky in spots, but tons of fun.
Shadow had to get in on the fun, too - by dragging Ashley all the way down!
And of course, Ashley had to try out Papa's homemade cargo sled - SCREAMING all the way! (I think she bailed off just before ending up in the trees.)
This was the sunset on Christmas Eve - SO gorgeous!
It was great to have time to relax and enjoy each other's company, watch movies and football games, chat it up and laugh. And ... eat, Eat, EAT!The cousins played and played and played. One afternoon, they spent
some time setting up LOTS of animals in the hallway - one animal per tile.I lost count of how many tea parties we had - complete with candles and singing! And Mandy brought gingerbread house kits for the kids to assemble and frost and decorate with candies.

And, of course, we HAD to have a fire in the fireplace nearly every evening. Mmmmmm.
Everyone's excited for a visit from Santa! Time for a slumber party in the music room!
Christmas Morning!
Dallas is excited to play with cool Leggo blocks from Santa ....
.... and is THRILLED with all of his new Mr. Potato Head characters!
Ava waits patiently while Mommy extracts Barbie from the box .... argggh ....
Tucker dons his new "Darth Vader" helmet, complete with heavy breathing and scary voices (his recent fascination with "Star Wars" really paid off!) ....
Brycen nearly hugs the stuffin' out of his new black doggy from Santa .... sooooo soft!
And Jett checks out his "Magic 8 Ball" from Santa! "Are you sure it REALLY answers your questions - for REAL?"
Ashley rips into a new FHE assignment board ....
Mandy's excited to try new, yummy recipes ....
Jayson shows off his new compressor ....
Papa giggles about the "Funny Farm" video from Matt and Kimbre ....
And Nana really needs a nap!
For some reason, I didn't have any pics of Drew - probably because he was always behind a camera ... hmmmm. Next time, buddy! You can't hide forever!

I think the BEST gift was Mandy and Drew's announcement ... (drum roll please) ... of baby #3! WAHOO! Still in the first trimester, and due next August! Our family just keeps growing and growing. We are so blessed!

The house was a disaster for DAYS - and the dishes were never-ending. But it just goes to show how much FUN we had being together. (We sorely missed the MacKay's and the Zirker's.) Thanks to everyone for gifts and laughter and great memories. FAMILY IS THE BEST!
