"You Have Been My Friend"

Yes, I stole much of this too.  But, when you find the perfect words, it's just silly to reinvent.:)

The co-op gals, Remi & Alyssa, and I surprised the Lea's with a surprise going away party at our house.  These are her words and my feelings are echoed too.  I will miss my friend.

I can't possibly express our gratitude and love for these people because words are inadequate. Perhaps this quote sums it up best:

"Why did you do all this for me?" he asked. "I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you."

"You have been my friend," replied Charlotte. "That in itself is a tremendous thing."
- E.B. White -

Co-op girls - Jaime. Alyssa. Lisa. Remi - My favorite Cottage friends, my sanity and my awesome examples of strong women and capable mothers. Plus, they are gorgeous, gorgeous women... inside and outside.

Leas. Shrouts. Richards. MacKays - The four "young" couples. If I could pack them up and take them all with me, I so would!

The MacKay kids and our kids - Good friends from Day One. So many memories created together.

Jason and Lisa MacKay - Amazing friends. We were told there were individuals who would bless and influence our lives waiting for us when we moved into The Cottage. Lisa is definitely one of those women for me.

- And you Jaime have been, and I know will continue to be, one of those women for me.

Welcome Home Mom & Dad!

Well they finally made it!  Mom and Dad finally made the move to Boise and we are so excited to have them here!  It was a bitter sweet move, leaving Ashley and Jayson and their kids, but now my kids get to enjoy all the fun with Nana and Papa.
Their house is huge - with lots of space for everyone to come visit - and I'm sure they would love to have you!  Right now they are literally swimming in boxes and the garage is completely full... but mom is having fun setting up her new kitchen and Dad has claimed his 2 man caves: his new office space and the theater room!
Isn't she cute!

Carter - enjoying some playtime on the family room floor.

This is a favorite area already - this is a secret play room under the stairs where Nana keeps her bucket of toy animals.  Brycen and Ava have already spent hours playing in here. It is perfect.  Nana has plans to bring in more toys, a table and a small TV to watch movies.  So much fun!!!

Well, there is still a lot to do... but what a fun adventure for all of us!  Welcome Home Nana & Papa!

THE STENCH! (Our Plumbing Adventure)

So about a month ago now, we had a clog in the sink.  No biggie, a little drain-o and voila, it's fixed!  . . . Or so we thought. . . until THE STENCH began.  I seriously thought something must have curled up and died in our sink's garbage disposal.  It smelled so bad, I can hardly describe it.  I tried bleach.  I put my hand down there and dug out every nasty that didn't go down the drain properly.  I even tried pine-sol.  But still THE STENCH remained--only now just mixed with that ammonia pine-sol stink to go with it.  Yay.  Finally, one evening I was washing some big bowls that had been soaking and dumped a bunch of icky water down the sink.  Shortly thereafter I turned on the dishwasher and as it was running, I noticed a huge amount of water coming out from under it!  Oh no, the dishwasher is leaking! . . . Or so we thought.  After moving out the mysteriously flawless dishwasher, cleaning up some seriously stenchy water, drying the floor, and doing yet another load of hand-washed dishes, I came to realize . . . it wasn't the dishwasher.  It was the WALL that was leaking.  A plumber, Uncle Randy, and a hole beneathe the sink confirmed it. (Not to mention fully released THE STENCH with  intense potency).  And, this little exploration revealed yet another nasty. . . a ROYAL nasty . . . MOLD.  By the way, mold was not the source of THE STENCH.  I'll get to that in a moment.  Just add that sicky musty smell to the list of lovely odors eking out of our kitchen!  (It is my personal theory that nasty smells have a will of their own and love to creep into spaces which they then fill with stink!)

Oh, and did I mention that during all of this our nieces, Mylie and Brynlee were staying with us for a few days. . . and I was just getting over the flu . . . and Jason was laid off in January and has been job hunting (we have hopes for success soon--keep us in your prayers!!!) (Part of me also says, "thank goodness he was able to be around to help with all of this!")   Anyhow, all I can say is thank heaven for sweet little girls who kept my boys soooo happy and who didn't care what my kitchen looked or smelled like.(pictures coming!)  Thank heaven for paper plates and Cafe Rio gift certificates (spending money at restaurants is sooo out of the budget right now), and thank heaven for Free Pancake Day at IHOP, and THANK HEAVEN for Uncle Randy.  He temporarily patched our kitchen midway through the week so I could get something cleaned and THE STENCH was at least somewhat contained behind the wall again.

So after our sweet Baker girls left, and we moved to Grandma and Grandpa MacKay's house, they ended up ripping out half of our kitchen cabinets and finding-- alot of water damage, ALOT OF MOLD, and HANDFULLS of disposal-chewed-leaked-out-of-the-pipe-ROTTING FOOD--ALAS the SOURCE of THE STENCH--all through the wall.  NASTY!!!!!  Needless to say, they stripped it to the studs.  The mold was so bad, they had to scrape it before they could spray treat it.  Apparently there had been a slow leak and mold had been growing for years, until our little clog blew everything wide open.  Thank goodness we cleared everything out of the kitchen and family room before they started, and Randy brought in a super-duper air filter thing to keep the spores and smells down.

Our landlord suggested that while they were fixing this problem, they should look into any other issues that we knew about--- aka the upstairs bathroom sewage pipe and occasional weird leaks onto the downstairs master shower (can you guess what color?--ew!!!!).   We had no idea it was this bad. (see photo below.)  Can we say cockroach heaven?   They ended up replacing 8 FEET of rotted pipe!   No wonder we were having so many problems with cockroaches on that particular side of the house--our bug man Rod was right.

Thank heaven it's getting fixed!  Here's to a working kitchen, no more mystery leaks, fewer cockroaches, no more mold =healthier air =fewer colds, and NO MORE STENCH!

The biggest THANK HEAVEN, however, goes to Grandma and Grandpa MacKay for taking us in while all of these repairs took place.  What started as 3-4 days, has become 2 weeks and they have been so amazing, welcoming, and kind.  I've been feeling like I'm practically on vacation--so spoiled with 3 extra pairs of hands to help with everything!  And the kids have just been soaking up the extra attention, hugs, kisses, and oreo cookies with pure childhood joy!   We also got to spend some time with Shannon and Kevin and baby Bella--they came for a quick weekend trip.  And even Uncle Jesse came passing through.

I feel so grateful and hopeful for the future.  Jason will find a job that moves him in a career promoting direction.  I have no doubt.  Our house will be healthier.  And we will continue growing and moving forward.:)  Thanks to all of you for your love and prayers!  Hope you enjoyed our little adventure story and remember, if you have any mysterious leaks or American cockroaches . . . watch out, you may have THE STENCH just sneaking around in your walls, waiting to creep out!

Oakes Update

Last week Brycen and I had our 1st date night!  I let him choose the activities for the evening and we set out for a night on the town.  We started with dinner at Panda Express.  You can see by the expression on his face that he is enjoying every bit of it!

This was the fortune he got in his cookie.  I couldn't agree more... Brycen is a well behaved, loving, funny, extraordinay boy!  How did I get so lucky?
After dinner, Brycen requested Pojo's for our next destination.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with this place, it's a large arcade/pizza place - where you win lots of tickets to turn in for worthless junk...I mean treasures.  :)  Or in my case, win only a few tickets - because I am TERRIBLE at these games!  Just ask Drew.  This did not seem to phase Brycen on bit.
After an hour of games and 3 rides on the carousel, we finished off our evening with a treat at Krispy Kreme.  I love this little man so, so much!  We had a great evening together and I look forward to more like this!

As for the other little man in my life - he has been hitting little milestones recently and just like the first two, I love every one of them!  He has started eating rice cereal, peas and carrots - he practically turns into a little puppy begging for food with his mouth hanging open whenever it's around.  He has also started sitting up on his own and tonight he learned how to do raspberries.  Awww... the simple things in life.  If only it stayed this simple.

Ava is doing awesome in school!  I am so proud of her.  She is getting good grades and she is a tremendous help at home!  She is a great big sister to both of her brothers!

The Tooth Fairy has a Customer!

Guess who just lost his first tooth!!  Woohoo!

As you can see, the adult tooth is already grown in behind it--we've been calling it his shark teeth!  We made this discovery earlier int the week when Jacob came to me all scared and near tears because his tooth was loose and he was afraid that it was rotten and he had to go to the dentist.  I don't know why he's scared of the dentist??  We're working on that one.  Anyhow, fear was soon turned into excitement, and he's been demonstrating his tooth's wiggly-ness every day since.

Finally while eating lunch today, Jake suddenly turned to my today and said, "Mommy..." and held out his tooth!  He's only 5 years old-- I can hardly believe it!  My baby boy is getting soooo big.

Little Lady

I got this picture on my phone a few weeks ago and its just too funny not to post.
Always a little lady. All that's missing is her pointing her pinky finger.

She's such a girl! I love it!

So, I don't often carry a purse.  I lug around a 40lb. diaper bag and transfer it from home to car to stroller.  That's enough for me most days.  However, lately Brooklynn has been loving the idea of carrying around her own purse!  It's the cutest thing ever, and besides general "girl-dom" I have no idea where she picked this up!  She found a old mini tote bag that Jacob had used for a scavenger hunt, filled it with a few items and was proudly trotting it around the other day.  The best part is what was inside-- a toy "radio," and old cell phone that she loves, and a binky!  Every girl's necessities! (18 month old girls that is!)

Happy Birthday Jett!!!

So I know I'm late, but on the 26th, our big man Jett turned 9 YEARS OLD!!! I can't believe he's getting so big so fast! I love when his birthday lands on a Saturday - we had SO much fun celebrating! As our tradition goes, Daddy took Jett out to lunch - he chose Burgerville (YUM) And then they went to the store to pick out a gift. Jett came home with 2 games - Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots and Operation. So fun! Jett's activity choice for his day was ice skating, so in the afternoon we went with a bunch of family to the ice arena! Jay and I haven't been skating for YEARS but we had SO MUCH FUN! Jett and Tucker were so cute falling all over the place, but they would just get back up and keep going, and loved it - they got better and better though and had a great time! Even Dallas got to try and thought he was the king of the rink as we dragged him along. It was such a fun family activity.  :)  Then in the evening all the family gathered at Nana and Papa's house for pizza, soda, veggies, chips, ice cream, cake and presents. Jett got some great gifts - (thanks everyone!) - and we had a really fun party!

HAPPY 9th BIRTHDAY JETT!

The Rockin' 80's

I love Ava's school!  They always have such fun events and tonight was another example!  It was 80's night. Ava came home after school begging to get all dressed up for 80's night.  I asked her if she even knew what the 80's were and she humbly replied "No".  Then she gave me that sweet smile and the begging continued.  Well, what is a mother from the 80's to do?

This is what we did...  what do you think, pretty RAD right?

Needless to say - she had a BLAST!

Snow Day!

Today was a SNOW DAY!  No school and lots of snow meant a fun filled afternoon with the kids!  Ava and Brycen could hardly wait to get outside - and Drew was ready to build another colossal snowman!
I think at this point it was too heavy!

Success!  We used just about all the snow in the yard!  Are you wondering how we got those heavy snow balls up so high?  Oh yea, and Ava too?  Let me just say, it took a few long 2x4's, Drew's extra strong muscles, and my wimpy muscles.  Then Drew cut out some stairs in the back side of the snowman to make it easier to climb.
I love snow days!
