Happy Halloween! (almost...)

I know it's not officially Halloween yet, but we've been having a blast so far and I had to share! On Thursday the 23rd, we decided to go to the pumpkin patch! It was a gorgeous day and being later in the afternoon, we were almost the only ones there! Not much was going on, but we still had a great time walking around and hunting for pumpkins.

Then on Friday night, we ate pizza, carved out the pumpkins - Tucker loved getting all messy, but with Jett, it took a little coaxing, but he eventually got into it! - and got ready to go to our ward Trunk or Treat Harvest Party! I do believe we have the cutest cowboys ever!

The Harvest Party was a lot of fun with lots of things for the kids to do. And of course the kids loved Trunk or Treating! Nana and Papa came to see the action and the kids got lots of candy and we all had a great time!

Then on Tuesday the 28th, we joined Brenna and the Rowley's at their ward Trunk or Treat. Once again the boys had a blast and loved hanging out with their little cousin and everyone, and of course getting more candy!

We have one more Halloween event coming up. Of course we have to do something on the 31st - actual Halloween! So every year we go trick or treating with the Counts at a shopping area close by. We walk around to all the stores and they hand out candy to the kids on Halloween in the afternoon. And because it's supposed to be rainy that day, I think we'll be done after that!
So there's our October happenings!

We love you and we hope all of you have a very Happy Halloween!!

Mom and Dad go Biking on the Coast

I know this is a little late after the fact but thought you might like to see some of the pic's anyway. Sue and I went with Dave and Cindy Fusselman over to Fort Stevens State Park in August to do some tandem bike riding. The day was perfect and we had a great time...along with a few good pictures.
It's not often that I manage to get Sue on the back of the bike with me, but when I do, it's a blast.

Deer Hunting 2008...Deer:1, Matt:0

Yesterday was Matt's first trip out for the Deer Hunt of 2008. He went with another deputy and one of his Sergeants. They went about 20+ miles up into the mountains north of the Kellogg area. As is often the case, they saw a lot of fresh sign (poop) of deer/elk, but had no luck. They had to cut it short around noon because Matt had to get back to the local area for a court case. Matt did learn one thing: he makes alot of noise when he walks through the woods. Here's a pic of him and the other deputy.

Happy Birthday Lisa...one day late...

Happy Birthday Lisa!!! I know it was yesterday but I didn't do Ashley's or Dad's on time either. You are a great mama and the best sister anyone could ask for. Thanks for always being there for us and for being the greatest example that your little sisters could look up to. Love you Lisa!

"Head"line News!

Hi everyone! Mom here. We thought everyone might like to see some pix of Dad's latest boo-boo.

A week ago Wednesday (on Sept. 10), Steve's blood pressure took a sudden dive - and so did he - face first on the tile floor. The night before had been a bad night for his RLS - not much sleep, up and down most of the night - pretty exhausting. Finally, at 6:30 AM he used the bathroom and was heading back to bed when I heard "THE THUD." I jumped out of bed and found him face down, arms at his sides, out cold - with blood gushing from his nose. Amazingly, I didn't panic, but went into "intensity mode". I don't know if the force of the fall knocked the wind out of him or what, but he stopped breathing for a few moments, so I (somehow) turned him over (which, thinking about it now was probably not a very smart thing to do ...) and mashed down hard on his rib cage a bunch of times to get him breathing again. He took a gasp - finally - (which seemed to be a long time to me) and I ran to get a towel to put pressure on his bleeding eyebrow. He came around enough (sort of) to hold the rag on his eye himself, which gave me time to call 9-1-1 and get help on the way.

When he started asking the same questions in the same order over and over, I knew he had a concussion - again (remember the mountain bike header?) and I just kept answering him over and over until the EMT's arrived. They checked him out carefully, loaded him on a back board with a cervical collar and hauled him away to Emanuel Hospital around 7 AM or so. I packed a few things I thought we might need (like insurance info, Steve's blackberry to contact his boss, the Stake Directory, etc.).

Steve doesn't remember much of this - not even the ride to the hospital. I arrived at the hospital around 7:30, and waited ... and waited. His full-body CT scan and echo cardiogram took a while. By the time I saw him again, he was still in and out of consciousness (he doesn't remember too much about the ER room, either). It turns out that he broke his nose (the actual bone part - not the cartilage) on both sides, had to have 5 stitches in his left eyebrow, got a fat lip, and suffered a concussion. His left eye turned black and swelled up really quickly, and his right eye started
to turn black a day or two later. Then they both turned blue/green/yellow - the whole rainbow stage - as he healed. He looked pretty scary for about a week!

Well, needless to say, my prayers were constant - and answered! I never felt panicked once. The Spirit really guided me and kept me calm, reassuring me that Steve was fine, considering his injuries.

The doctors checked Steve over pretty thoroughly: besides the CT scan and echo cardiogram, he had an ultrasound of the carotid arteries, blood tests, urinalysis, with blood pressure and heart rate monitors going the whole time. His blood pressure remained quite low - 100 over 57-60 or less - so the doctors were pretty cautious about letting him get up or go home. They opted to keep Steve overnight for observation. All his tests turned out normal - go figure...

YIPES! What a day! Thankfully, Steve heals very quickly, and now about 10 days later, both eyes look almost normal (color-wise that is). His stitches are out, but he still has a blue knot on his eyebrow where the stitches were. And he still has headaches off and on due to his broken nose. He went back to work after getting out of the hospital (working from home the next day), and has been fine ever since. "Just another battle scar" to add to the list! Ah, well! It all just adds character!

All in all, we were very blessed that his injuries weren't any worse, and that I was home when he went down.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and concern. It's wonderful to have a loving family like you to support us!

A Fairy Tale

So Jett has had two wiggly teeth on the bottom for a while now and as they have gotten more wiggly, he became more and more aware that something was going on... We often talked about his wiggly teeth and when they would be ready to come out and he would always say, "It's not ready today. Maybe later." Well, last night at Nana/Papa's house, I was worried of him swallowing his tooth during dinner so I had Daddy "look" at his tooth and next thing we know he spat it out of his mouth!! Jett's first tooth out!

As he spat it out of his mouth, his expression was so funny because he wasn't quite sure what had happened. He was pretty excited once he discovered he was missing a tooth! The rest of the evening was filled with questions and comments like,
"Why does it feel weird when I don't have a tooth in my mouth?"
"Touch my tooth! It feels different!"
He's very happy with his window.

I took these pictures last night as we tucked him in with his tooth safe under his pillow. In the morning he happily discovered that the tooth fairy had left him 4 quarters and a dum-dum! What a lucky kid!
***
So as he came in to show me his prize this morning, I decided to check out his other wiggly tooth and to my amazement, it had gotten very loose overnight! We told Dad who tried to pry it out, but with big fingers, it wasn't too easy. So Mom got a grip and... TADA!....Another missing tooth!! The tooth fairy will come again tonight and he can hardly wait!

What a window! It's so cute to see it when he's talking!

And an update on Tucker... He got his stitches out last Friday and he looks great! You can't even tell he used to have an owie there.

Jacob at the cabin

One of Jason's cousins was with all of us at the cabin and his hobby is photography. He took these photos of Jacob and they are so beautiful I just had to post them! If you'd like to see more of the pictures he took, you've got to check out his blog at http://www.joekenzie.blogspot.com/

Our love to you all! Miss you and love you sooo much!

Can we say "I LOVE PASTA?!"

The first few are lasagne and the ones with the blue bowl are spagetti. We've discovered that basically Jakey will eat anything with marinara sauce on it. Hee hee! YUM!
SQUEEZE!! Flex those baby muscles! His new full-length orange bib appropriately says 1spoon-2spoon-3spoon-floor!

I love this bowl sequence just because he was being so silly this day! Love you all and hope you enjoy!! Miss you TONS! xoxo
